A public policy wonk and entrepreneur, @Charles Belle focuses on empowering startups and building centers of innovation. His passions are innovation, startups, OpenGov/Gov2.0, and consumer-driven technology. As the Executive Director of the UC Hastings, Privacy and Technology Project. Current work includes providing educational tools to developers to assist them in efficiently navigating privacy regulations and industry standards, developing consumer tools to improve awareness of data collection and use; and, examining and assessing privacy rating systems (impact, value, creation, etc.). In addition, Charles organizes the Privacy Project community outreach initiatives, including launching the first Privacy Workshop for Startups and the Bay Area Privacy Professionals Meetup. Charles is also the interim Executive Director for the (pilot) UC Hastings, Innovation Law Center launching 2013. The Center focuses on issues to sustain innovation. Current research projects include the data driven legislation and exploring specific regulatory policies on the innovation industry. Outside of work, Charles is immersed in the startup scene as the co-founder of SF Fashtech. SF Fashtech an innovation company focused on advancing the intersection of fashion+technology. In addition to serving on panels and acting as a moderator, he has also produced a series of events that include Fashtech Insight, STUDIO64, and the first fashion+tech oriented Startup Weekend.
