@Maisha Shabazz Akbar, Ph.D. is a performance studies academic, playwright and activist who teaches speech/drama at Fort Valley State University (GA).  She also serves as Director of the Joseph Adkins Players student drama group. Dr. Akbar’s lynching play, “Saving White Face,” was re-staged in April, 2012 to commemorate Trayvon Martin’s murder and is the basis of her forthcoming article, “(Re)Examining Lynching in (an Allegedly) Post Race Era.”
Her blog, seeks to re-vision "black play" as digital cultural production that counters gender, race and class- based oppression. As such, BlackPlayBook performs within a womanist/black feminist tradition on a "play-ground" of black performance, scholarship and activism. BlackPlayBook references a special issue of Theatre Journal v57, n4 (December 2005) that asks, "What is Black Play?"
